Well, well, well…
Valentine’s Day is here, people. Whether you are about to pass out from excitement of what your significant other may have up their sleeve for you orrrr you are about to drown yourself in Ben & Jerry’s and an anti-love party, balloons to pop and all; I have something very important to say to all of you. There is a perspective to V-day that gets forgotten, swept under the Hallmark rug, the perspective that you can be your own valentine.
That’s right. LOVE YOURSELF.
Too often, we forget to do this. No, I am not saying turn into Paris Hilton and take 20 selfies a day and love yourself in an arrogant, nauseating way. I am saying, do not forget about yourself. Do not forget to look in the mirror and say “hey, you’re pretty awesome.” Love yourself with all your flaws, your quirks and every other thing that make you “you.” Some of us may be good at this, some, may not. Remember that sometimes you need to be your own biggest fan. It’s true. If you don’t like yourself, how can you expect anyone else to? Take a moment to think about that.
To get all psychologist on you all, in my social psych class I am taking this semester, we actually just learned that having positive illusions (aka boosting yourself up into thinking you are awesome) is good for people! To put it simply, like yourself and you are going to be able to deal with a lot more stress and situations than you would if you are more likely to get down on yourself or not think you are that great.
For those of us that respond to a more visual palate, here are some of my favorite inspirational quotes from Pinterest. Who doesn’t love a good Pinterest quote? Anyone?
Didn’t think so, so read up on these and remember to remind yourself how great you are on a daily basis. Especially on Valentine’s Day.
If it is all about love, then that includes all the types of love. A little (make that a lot of) self-love is good for the soul. Love yourself, please. We are exactly who we are for a reason. Trust our girl, Jenn Aniston, & believe that life really is a journey of self-discovery. If you are not going to discover how to love yourself & all you were meant to be…what are you here for? Enjoy whatever it is that you do. Every day, learn from your ups and downs and love life.
Happy Valentine’s Day, peeps. & Happy UpKeep!
