If you haven’t already seen on Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, or Tumblr, this past weekend marked the beginning of the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
This mega-concert is packed into two weekends and is everything a music festival junkie could dream of; tucked away in the Colorado Desert and surrounded by mountains, thousands of people come together dressed in their best hippie get-ups and jam out for 72 hours.
In this venue, if you want to rest your eardrums or if your just sick of being surrounded by sweaty crowd-surfers, you can join in on one of the dozens of activities, such as riding a giant Ferris wheel, taking a dip, or even stopping to get a drink at an outdoor bar.
Needless to say, Coachella is hipster heaven.
Granted I’m not one to sport a Native American chief’s headpiece, like, say Alessandra Ambrosio (pictured below, only she can pull it off), but I’m still a little jealous that I’m not head bumping to Outkast alongside Kendall and Kylie Jenner.
So, as I sadly scroll through my Instagram timeline filled with celebrity selfies and backstage panoramas, it’s hard not to envy those in their Woodstock-best.
Yet, even though those in Oxford aren’t surrounded by green-juice worshiping, yoga-obsessed, ombre-haired Californians, that doesn’t mean you can’t immerse yourself in boho-chic in honor of this yearly celebration.
Copy this year’s Coachella professionals and immerse yourself in hippie-inspired wear with these affordable pieces.
You’ll want to stand out at music festivals like Coachella. Comfortable, easy, and cute, this Urge Playsuit from Sabo Skirt for $58 is not only perfect for musical festivals (and beautiful weather), but also is casual enough to wear during the day. Layer dainty necklaces for the daytime and throw on a pair of chunky wedges to transition into the evening.
You can’t go to a music festival and not rock a pair of cutoffs. These denim shorts from Forever 21 are ideal because of the frayed cut and Native American patterned side-panels. Forget the overbearing Chief’s headpiece, these shorts are subtle yet stylish. You can purchase them for an affordable $15.80.
Similar to cut-off shorts, one will surely find an abundance of crop-tops at music festivals, as well. Pair this High Neck Print Cami from Free People with high waisted shorts and your best gladiator sandals for a casual yet stand out look. Bonus points for the awesome criss-cross knotted back. This piece is available for $48.
Embrace your inner rocker with a super soft vintage tee like this Nevermind Baby Tee from Gypsy Warrior for $40. Kudos paying homage to Kurt Cobain from Nirvana, everyone’s favorite 90’s punk rock rebel.
Take a cue from Kendall Jenner’s floor length lace kimono and rock a long crochet or lace vest.
Forget the oversized flower headband; this year, rock a floppy, wide-brimmed hat like the Stevie Wool Hat from Nasty Gal for $30. It’s bohemian-meets-rocker chic and you won’t have to worry about constantly adjusting the ten-pounds of artificial flowers resting on your sweaty scalp.
Booties are your shoe of choice for Coachella, as they protect your foot being stomped on by fellow concert goers and look cute with anything from a loose dress to high-waisted shorts. Take on the crowd with the Billy Biker Short Boot by Frye for $397.95. These are worth the splurge due to the quality leather. The distressed areas and studs are also a game-changer.
