There are many unwritten rules in fashion when it comes to denim.
Sometimes it’s wrong…
Sometimes it’s right…
A denim outfit is a tricky look to pull off because of the overwhelming shades of blue and lack of flexible fabric. However there is hope! A successful jean on jean ensemble is something to be proud of and I’m here to help you pull it off.
There are several things to consider when you dress in denim:
Though jean on jean outfits are often called Canadian Tuxedos because the top and bottom match, you never want to be wearing the same color of jean all over. To have a cohesive look you have to have varying shades of jean on top and bottom. This way, your outfit isn’t overwhelmed and you can focus on two different pieces you love!
Like I mentioned before, you can’t wear the same color jean on your top and bottom and this goes the same for the texture. To wear a great jean outfit you need variety. Above, Olivia Munn is rocking a Chambray shirt and boyfriend jeans. The difference in texture really gives her look a sophisticated and complex vibe. Also speaking from experience…once you find the perfect pair of BF jeans, your world will change entirely!
Although you want to keep it simple, layering is essential in any great jean ensemble. Chambray shirts allow for many layering options because of their loose fit and flexible fabric. Give your outfit some dimension and have fun with finding new ways to wear jean!
4. Pop of Color
Since jean outfits are sometimes overwhelmingly blue, adding a colorful scarf, bracelet or shoe helps break up the look. Jean outfits are great if you want to feature a fun shoe especially because the similarity in your clothing helps focus attention on accessories!
If you have even an ounce of the confidence these denim divas have then you can disregard all the tips I gave you because you’re set! Sidenote: any outfit with a bedazzled Chanel brooch is a success.
