Slipper Season

Outside the snow is falling and friends are calling yoo-hoo. And, no, I’m not about to sing you Christmas carols – tis no longer the season (and you do not want to hear my singing voice).

We have tried, and many of us succeeded, all weekend to go Uptown and embrace the five-day weekend, despite the five feet of snow that accumulated as we celebrated. But, now reality is kicking in and we have to come to terms with the fact that we actually have classes this week. We blast our heaters, bundle up in our sweatshirts, equip ourselves with our laptops, and never forget what I have found to be a college dorm essential in the winter – slippers.

Slippers have become almost a security blanket for surviving dorm life. They are there with you when you walk across the hall to hang out in your friend’s room. They are there with you when you wake up in the middle of the night and stubble through sleepy-eyes to the bathroom. They are even there to trek down the road with you when you need to grab a late night snack at the market. When something is there with you for this much time it really becomes a part of you – a minor inkling in to your personality.

Let’s see what your slippers say about you.

You have come to terms that you high school Uggs have holes, are discolored, and all in all, are just not something that should be worn out anymore. But, still, you can’t seem to part with them and the comfort and warmth that they bring. You are the type of person that wears slippers for both the physical and the physiological comfort. Your slippers feel the same to you as a hug from an old friend. When you put them on you are looking to be both comfy and comforted.

You saw your slippers while wondering haphazardly through the lines at Target. They caught your eye and made you laugh, and they came in your size. They most likely look like bunnies or a cartoon character and you wear them with pride. You use your slippers as more of a statement piece. You like to be the center of attention, you like to make people laugh and you have no shame.

What slippers? You have shower shoes. You find comfort in other things like your bed and Netflix. There’s no need for slippers when you can’t leave your bed until you finish all the seasons of Grey Anatomy, and Friends, and Gilmore Girls.

Whatever slippers you choose to wear, or not, make sure they are the right ones for you. Because slippers are all about comfort through the chilly seasons.
