Fans of Bon Iver have been waiting eagerly for his next release after his promising single this summer, “Heavenly Father,” featured in Zach Braff’s film Wish You Were Here, but so far nothing has come to fruition. To those of you who’ve listened to “Skinny Love” and “Holocene” on repeat on rainy days, new Icelandic singer Asgeir is here for you.
Frequently compared to the likes of Sigur Ros, James Blake, Thom Yorke, and other from the experimental indie-folk scene, Asgeir is an Icelandic singer-songwriter who has recently gained popularity with American audiences. His second studio album – In the Silence – is his first ever all-English release. The album is both melodic and triumphant, with equal efforts in introspection and passion. Isolation is a major theme here, but not so much that Asgeir feels distant. The album is the perfect companion to the drowsy weather we’ve been having.
In the Silence is available on Spotify. Key tracks include “On that Day,” “Higher,” and “Going Home.”
