This week marks the release for UP Magazine’s online winter issue. Our down-to-earth winter issue is inspired by nature, warm colors and the beauty of winter as we near the warmer seasons.
However, it appears we aren’t the only ones invigorated by Mother Nature, as Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week for Fall and Winter 2015 has shown us that the au naturel approach to style and beauty is here to stay.
One of the most nature-stimulated shows of NYFW is Anna Sui’s Fall 2015 collection. Flaunting outdoorsy-style with a touch of glam, this collection could be described as Viking chic. Thanks to pieces like multicolored fur capes, cowhide vests, knit hats, embroidered boots, long flowing dresses complete with 70’s inspired prints, and natural hair and makeup, this show was proof that Mother Nature was the original stylist.
Sui played with warm orange and red colors, browns and blacks, and shades of purple also appeared on the runway. The makeup had a native edge to it, as it appears brown eyeliner was used to recreate tribal patterns, enhancing the Viking theme Sui was originally influenced by.
While not all the shows channeled earthy vibes, their deep warm and cool colors are suggestive of the outdoors and the beauty of changing seasons.
We can’t help but agree with Kanye West when he says that “Ralph is god”. Ralph Lauren showed us how to rock winter white, along with furs ranging in earth-toned colors. The detailing that made it’s spotlight on the runway includes crochet, lace, and fringe, proving that Ralph knows natural beauty done right.
Donna Karan appeared to be inspired by nature’s tones and textures. Embracing dark yet warm colors, Karan played with texture in the show’s ensembles to break up too dark of colors. Like many fall 2015 collections, shearling was also shown in a range of styles and colors.
Michael Kors’ 2015 Fall runway illustrated how to combine urban sophistication with a wildlife influence. His show defined cosmopolitan countryside, with tweed, fur accents, masculine-cut blazers and earth-toned dresses.
The makeup at Michael Kors was as easygoing as the designer; hair was bed-head messy while makeup was kept fresh through blush, naturally flushed lips, and brown eyeshadows.
A natural flush was given to the models by dusting bronzer atop cheekbones and on the forehead, and blush on the apples of the cheeks. Paired with filled-in brows, this look is clean yet pretty, perfect for class or a day out with friends.
Although winter is coming to end, the colors, textures, and trends featured in these Fall 2015 shows make us wish we could fast-forward to falling leaves and pumpkin patches. If only I looked as good in Viking chic as Gigi Hadid. A girl can dream.
