Naturally soothing syrups

Studies have shown that honey is one of the best soothers when it comes to a cough or sore throat. And I could bore you with all of the science behind it. I could tell you about how honey has antimicrobial and antioxidant properties and can fight bacteria. Or I could even bore you with how it is packed with nutrients like protein, fiber, and various 22c0ee22fe038829be9479a02cb957f6vitamins and minerals so it balances your digestive enzymes, essentially helping you lose weight.

So with the cold season rearing its nasty head, and sore throats running rampant all over campus, I think it’s time to implement some honey into our lives.

To spice up your lives it could be fun to try a Honey Citrus Syrup!

-Add half of the lemon slices, then half of the ginger, then half of the honey; give it a stir with a chopstick, table knife, or other long thin object. Move the lemon slices around to 5706make sure the honey runs between them.
-Repeat with the remaining lemon, ginger, and honey; stir and top off with more honey, if needed, to fill the jar.
This can be done in any size jar. I used half-pint (1 cup jars). The jars should be approx. 3/4 full with citrus. This allows room for at least 1/2 cup of honey per jar.
-Hint : place some of the lemon slices vertically down the sides of the jar so that full slices are visible from the outside. They tend to stack horizontally otherwise.
