Mask and Relax: Skin tips for the winter

By Vivian Drury

The winter takes a toll on us all. Low temperatures and snow constantly persuade us to stay in bed and binge watch Netflix rather than be productive.

But winter’s wrath doesn’t stop there, as the dry, cold air takes our skin from smooth and sun-kissed to rough and cracked. I myself am familiar with the perils of dry, sensitive skin, so I’m going to share with you the natural products I use to keep my skin from drying out.

Using different masks and exfoliators is not only good for your skin, but also relaxing!

Oatmeal , fruit, and avocado masks are all very effective in preventing dryness. Simply by mashing these materials alone or by adding other enhancers like honey, milk, and olive oil can lock in moisture. Egg is also very effective because it is a conditioning agent, meaning that it will help soothe and soften skin.

To maintain a healthy glow, create a banana and chocolate mask. Use 5 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 2 tablespoons of mashed avocado, and about 4 tablespoons of honey. This mixture will reduce marks and blemishes from the skin and bring out its natural radiance. Feel free to munch on some extra chocolate while making the mask mixture!

Don’t have time to make a mask yourself? No problem! Various makeup retailers sell exfoliators that will help your soothe skin. Especially during harsh winters, try to find products that are oil free and fragrance free. This will help restore the natural beauty of your skin whereas harsh smelling products can just clog up your pores more. Merle Norman Cosmetics and Clinque Cosmetics are known for having very natural and reliable products and have great advice on how to tend to your specific skin type.

Whether you make it or buy it, using natural masks and creams will help keep your skin happy and glowing all winter long.
