Parka UP

By Vivian Drury

After the holidays, it’s hard to not dream of beaches, bikinis, and anything involving temperatures over 50 degrees. Unfortunately, temperamental weather and long winters keep us wishing (and shivering) for the warmer months.

The best way to beat the cold this winter is by wearing a cozy parka. Parkas come in all different styles and colors, giving bundling up many options.

Often the biggest concern about parkas is their massive puffy shell. I always used to think that the usual parka puff would feel restricting and marshmallow-like until I found this Madewell and Penfield Kasson Parka. This great coat still has the flannel inside and length that keeps you warm without the overbearing puffy feeling. Also, it comes in black and olive which are good transitioning from fall to winter or winter to spring colors.

If you’re looking for a coat that is going to keep you nice and toasty for long periods of time, parkas with a double-layered inside and lined pockets are the perfect choice. This J.Crew Winters Puffer Coat is great for long winters because of its multi-layered inside. Also the waist tie and faux-fur hood keep your shape and style intact even in negative degree temperatures.

Parkas are also great for wearing in winter sports and activities. Patagonia and The North Face parkas are known for being very breathable and easy to move in without sacrificing warmth. The Patagonia Stormdrift Parka has a two-layer nylon shell and has hand warmer pockets to push away the cold.

Whatever your parka needs are, they are guaranteed to help you conquer winter while keeping your classic, effortless style intact. Stay warm!
