Play UP Your Shoulders

By Maddie Wood

Admittedly, I always get a little nervous about trying new trends. I think I’m part of a very select group of 16-22 year olds who doesn’t own a crop top or anything with stomach cutouts. Besides my total disdain for bare clothing, especially strapless styles, I actually found a craze I’m crazy about.

Looking for a chic way to show off some skin as the weather heats up? Follow the lead of style stars such as Olivia Palermo, Lily Aldridge, and Kendall Jenner and throw on a sophisticated off the shoulder top, dress, or romper.

This sassy silhouette is extremely versatile and offered in a variety of styles. Whether your aesthetic is bold, boho, casual, or edgy, there’s guaranteed to be an off the shoulder garment that works for you.

Some of my favorite off the shoulder styles come from bohemian brand Free People and cool-girl favorite Topshop. Free People offers unique tops ranging from breezy to frilly. Topshop lends its signature, sharp taste to modern shift dresses and rompers. Off the shoulder pieces work just as well with flared jeans and platform heels as they do with casual shorts and lace-up sandals.

To dress up the off the shoulder style, keep your beauty and accessories chic and sleek. Straight, middle parted hair and a delicate choker necklace are the perfect complements. For a more festival-appropriate look, wear hair in loose, beachy waves with lots of braided bracelets and cool rings.
