Do Up Your Denim

By Abby Cunningham

Jean jackets are a classic, and a staple once the weather starts to get colder–but is it time to change it up a bit? Embellished jean jackets are on our radar for this fall. These are jean jackets with decorative details or features of some sort on the back, pockets, sleeves, or all of the above. They are a blend of timeless and trendy that allows individuals to be unique in their wearing of denim jackets.

What’s nice about these jackets is that there is a DIY option for those of us who are crafty. If you can get your hands on an old, oversized jean jacket, all you need from there is the materials to embellish it with. Any craft store has a variety of options for this, such as pompoms, ribbon, fringe, fabric or coin trim. Once you have the jacket and your materials, you can pin the decorative items to the jacket and take it to a seamstress, or attempt to take on this tremendous sewing job on your own. If crafts aren’t your thing, there are a selection of embellished jean jackets on Etsy, usually handmade.

These jackets can be paired with anything a regular jean jacket is worn with, but the embellishments will give the outfit a whole new texture and dimension. A shift dress and booties or a simple skirt and fitted top with these jackets are a safe route to go. The possibilities for creating, purchasing and wearing embellished jean jackets are abundant.
