Layers Upon Layers

By Claire Vaughn

Layers have always been in style. The 2000s saw the trend of layering hair thanks to celebs like Jennifer Aniston and Kelly Clarkson. Soon, the look of layering multiple t-shirts and tanks with sweaters came about, mostly borrowed from the ’80s and ’90s. However, in the last new months, layering jewelry has become increasingly pleasing, specifically necklaces. This is because it can add a bit of pop and personality to any outfit. The trick is to do know what you want!

When layering necklaces, there are a few things to remember. First, check out your outfit. If you’re wearing a shirt with a high neckline, go with a long necklace, like mid-belly length. Then, add another a bit shorter. You can add as many as you’d like! The important one is the longest one. This will elongate your frame, make you look a bit taller, and perhaps emphasize your posture!

But, if you’re wearing a shirt with a lower neckline, say a v-neck, you would want to go ahead and wear shorter necklaces. Ones that go mid-chest will be perfect. Then maybe another a bit lower. Finally, here’s the kicker. Wear a y-style necklace. These will draw attention to your cleavage section and elongate your chest. But, it won’t overpower the outfit.

Another trick is to pick smaller, daintier necklaces. Many can be found here.  Remember, there will be a few of them, so it’s okay if they are not a statement in and of one necklace by itself. Smaller designs or even thinner chains are perfect! As far as metals, mixed metals are very in. So don’t overthink it and just go for it! Wear what you want with confidence!
