Patching things UP

By Allie Eames

To add to the eclectic and vintage-feeling looks on runways right now, patchwork and iron-ons are back like never before. Ranging from 50’s and 60’s  letter jacket looks, to 70’s groovy ones, to the 90’s edgy feel, or all three combined at once, it’ll make you want to sacrifice a simple cross-body, boyfriend jeans or even a leather jacket for the vintage feel of patches.

One of the best parts about this trend is it’s DIY capabilities. You can  turn something you already own or find at a thrift store into a total showpiece, for daytime looks and even nighttime going out looks. I cannot wait to add this style to my closet after a good trip to a thrift store.

Don’t want something quite as edgy, or you’re looking for a bit more sophistication and softness? You’ll appreciate a 70’s inspired look, like these embroidered denim pieces.

And then there’s Anya Hindmarch, a major influencer in the modern interpretation of these old school styles. Her fall line debuted gems like this intricately designed backpack below. What I’d do for an extra $900 laying around.
