Skincare Routine for The Acne Prone Face

By Hannah Blaze

There is nothing worse than having acne prone skin. I have dealt with acne since my middle school years, and I have yet to find that one perfect routine that keeps my face looking flawless. However, after plenty of trial and error, I have found a combo that keeps most of my acne at bay and overall has really helped improve the quality of my skin. Here is a step by step look at my nightly routine:

1. Removing My Makeup

Before I wash my face, I try to eliminate a majority of my makeup with a gentle toner and cotton round. Scrubbing away most of your makeup before you deep cleanse will be more efficient when washing your face.

2. Washing With an Electronic Brush

Once most of my makeup is removed, I go in and wet my face down with warm water. Then, I take my cleanser and brush and begin scrubbing my face. You can wash your face with your hands and still be just as effective- but I like using a face brush to get extra clean, plus it helps exfoliate. Make sure to always have a gentle touch with your electronic brush because too much pressure may cause irritation. If I’m wearing extra makeup on a particular day, I will cleanse, rinse, and then cleanse once more.

3. Tone Your Face

After my face is squeaky clean, I go in once again with the same gentle toner. This one, in particular, is a mixture of witch hazel, aloe vera, and rose water, which is a fantastic combination for acne-prone skin. I love this toner because it is alcohol-free and does not irritate my skin, but I still find it to be super useful.

4. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!

My final step is packing on the lotion. I have discovered that one of the most efficient ways to keep my acne at bay is through keeping my skin extremely moisturized. This Cetaphil lotion is a perfect moisturizer, and I think it does a great job. I will literally put around four layers of it on my face every night. A good tip is to rub a bit of it in your hands to warm it up before application- as this will help it seep into your skin faster and more efficiently!

5. The Occasional Mask

Once or twice a week I love to spoil myself and have a movie & mask night. This mask, in particular, is great because it’s a combination of dead sea mud and bentonite clay, which is a super fantastic combination for fighting acne. It feels super gentle on my skin, yet still so effective. Plus it’s very affordable!

I know acne can be super frustrating, especially when it will not go away no matter how hard you try to fight it. You just have to keep persevering until you find your magic potion of products. I have found these products to be super helpful for myself, and hopefully, they can help you as well!
