College students are no strangers to tight spaces. We live in dorms, small houses with multiple people, and are crammed into classrooms each day. After we graduate, many of us will be sharing studio apartments with a roommate and possibly spending all day in a cubicle. Let’s just say this is part of growing up but nobody likes it.

That’s what I thought until I stumbled across a new phenomenon, the #VanLife phenomenon. This is where young people, often couples, ditch their rents and invest in converting a van into a home.

Their home, which is on four wheels, gives them the ultimate life of freedom. They can spend their days adventuring and wake up with a new view whenever they want. This freedom comes with a few caveats of course. As they live in a confined space where every item is strategically placed to increase their comfort and stay organized. Despite the lack of space, the “van-lifers” that I’ve followed each put a homey spin on their van to make it their own.

These free spirits live an admirable, minimalist lifestyle that I certainly would struggle with. I’ve included the links to some of my favorite #VanLife couples and youtube pages, as well as some Instagram photos for you to contemplate whether or not you could live this life as well. If not, observing these couples are a great form of entertainment and time to reflect on our often materialistic lifestyles.
