“Coachella, Y’all ready?”
In case you’ve been living under a rock, or you’re on some sort of social media boycott, Beyonce was the centerpiece at the annual Coachella music festival in Palm Desert, California. Though this doesn’t come as a surprise, she absolutely nailed it (in custom Balmain), and it’s safe to say she blew up the internet once again. Seriously, go check your Instagram or Twitter feed. It’s overflowing with clips of her performance or memes about her sheer perfection.
For those not lucky enough to see it live, a high-quality recording of the entire ensemble will be available soon. Note: this is not something you watch in between classes. This was a performance. For nearly two hours, Beyonce dominated the stage, completely captivating her audience and making Coachella history, being the first black woman to ever headline the festival, and the first woman to headline in over ten years. Yeah, I think her self-proclaimed “Beychella” could stick.
Also, Beyonce surprised her fans with appearances from Destiny’s Child and her husband, rapper Jay-Z. Stars everywhere went insane, showing their support either in person or via social media. You can watch Rihanna visibly losing her mind in the crowd like any other festival-goer, or Adele dancing enthusiastically in front of her television. Though it seems almost impossible, the power of Queen Bey made the attendees put down their phones, forget their dedication to posting the trendiest, most carefully constructed photos, and just enjoy one hell of a performance.
