If you missed the 2018 American Music Awards (AMA’s), don’t worry I got you covered. From celebrity fashion to outstanding performances, here’s everything you missed!
This year’s AMA’s were hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, star actress in “black-ish” for a second time in a row. Her chemistry with the audience was unbeatable as always with her commentary and jokes.
But wait there’s more!
Ross’s fashion choices this year were nothing to disappoint as she only wore black fashion designers. She had an amazing presence at the Red carpet, her fashion was out of this world also at the AMAs.

AMAs Tracee Ellis Ross Lookbook:
Left to Right: Leopard jumpsuit by Sergio Hudson; colorful Kameni print gown from Lavie by Claude Kameni; shimmery Balmain tuxedo gown; Rise Up and Vote t-shirt paired with Karla Welch and Shanell Campbell ball gown skirt
These are just four of the twelve outfits that she wore, and the tea is that she only wore black fashion designers out of respect for the culture.
Speaking of culture or Kulture…Cardi B!
‘Kulture,’ Cardi B’s newly born, was on Cardi’s B’s mind as she accepted her 3 AMA’s this year. Cardi B’s first award of the night was favorite artist: Rap- Hip Hop.
In her popular acceptance speech that you have seen all over social media, was a dedication to her newborn, Kulture, husband from favorite rap hip/hop trio, Migos, Offset, and also slight shade to her haters.
She talks about the typical attitude in the music industry that many think the odds of having a baby and coming on on top are close to none. While addressing this topic she sings “I wasn’t going to make it after I had a baby,” thanking everyone for their doubts.
Cardi B’s night did not end with her awards as she had an incredible Latino-inspired performance with Bad Bunny and J Balvin, performing the song “I Like It” from her album Invasion of Privacy.

Another highlight of the 2018 AMA’s was our girl, Taylor Swift. She had little to say about politics, her fashion was noteworthy, and her victory of AMAs was breathtaking.
Taylor Swift opened the AMAs with the song “I Did Something Bad.”
Taylor Swift also used her platform to talk about politics briefly encouraging the younger audience to register to vote as she won 4 AMAs that night.
Make sure you do register to vote! Word on the street is that Issue 6 is an important one to vote on!
Other Swift news, she actually surpassed Whitney Houston’s record of AMAs in a lifetime as a female artist as Whitney Houston has 21 and Taylor Swift just achieved 23 AMAs. Congrats girl! You did that!
A final highlight included the tribute to, Aretha Franklin who just recently passed. She was remembered with an ALL-STAR gospel performance from her close friends and other popular artists. Performers included Gladys Knight, her then bestie, Cece Winans, Ledisi, and Mary Mary: Tina and Erica Campbell.
Aretha Franklin will be forever remembered through her music, social work as an activist, and loving personality as a friend. Rest in peace Aretha Franklin. Thank you.
I think it’s safe to say that GIRL POWER can be highly associated with the 2018 AMAs.
