The struggle between need and want when it comes to asking for a gift is real during the holiday season. As my relatives started to ask me what I want for Christmas, I’ve thought about what I’ve asked for before––what really was a “want” and what really was a “need?” I realized I asked solely for plenty of “wants” and solely for plenty of “needs” throughout the years, but this year I thought why can’t I ask for gifts that fulfill both?
Practical Shoes

I found out the hard way the other day that I needed new black boots when I stepped in a puddle and found my sock to be soaking wet and my toes freezing cold. When I got to class, I looked at my boot and realized there’s a crack in the sole. So, I asked for these: “The Gretta Boot” in black leather by Steve Madden, which I have been eyeing for a while now. It’s a cute, simple, black boot I could wear every day to replace my cracked ones–a want and a need.
Makeup

Earlier this semester, I dropped my favorite highlighter and it cracked into many little pieces, making it almost impossible to use. I’m asking for a new highlighter, once again something I use very often, but it’s the specific highlighter that I like.
Warm and Comfortable Clothes

There is no cap to how many sweaters, pairs of sweatpants, and thick, warm leggings you can own, especially with how brutal winter can get here in Oxford. I picked out this pair of cozy sweats that’ll keep me warm and comfortable while in class, studying, or hanging out with friends.
