Athleisure: casual, comfortable clothing designed to be suitable for exercise and everyday wear.
Seemingly, since coming to college, I’ve noticed the trend of athleisure slowly but surely taking over on campus. It makes sense after all, because who doesn’t want to wear comfortable loungewear 24/7.
I remember in high school, everyone used to get so dressed up, including myself, in cute jeans, some sort of outerwear jacket (a camouflage one from J.Crew being my favorite), and short brown boots. Nowadays, that look would be appalling on a college campus, and I can guarantee that my friends would definitely question my choice of apparel because surely it must be for some sort of interview or formal meeting. So rather than take the unnecessary steps of dressing up for class, I think this is certainly a trend worth trying.
I definitely advise embracing this trend if you’re looking for a way to switch up your mundane “sorority sweatshirt look.” Here are a few of my favorite stores to shop for athleisure at:
- Free People
One of my favorite stores to shop for these pieces is at Free People. I recently bought a pair of black leggings from FP, and they have already become my new obsession because they feel just like my favorite pair of Lululemon leggings, but cheaper! I am also a big fan of their joggers because they are super comfy.
- Outdoor Voices
I am also a big fan of Outdoor Voices and have heard many great things. They are well-made and have so many cute patterns. I definitely plan on stocking up on their shorts this summer.
- Sweaty Betty
Sweaty Betty is another one of my favorites. They have a ton of stores in major cities like New York City and Boston, and I always go into them because the stores are so bright and colorful. I have a pair of orange shorts from here, and they are definitely one of my favorite pairs.
4. Carbon 38
Lastly, I just googled the best places to shop for athleisure and stumbled upon Carbon 38. They have super cute leggings and sneakers, and pretty much anything you could think of. I definitely recommend checking it out.
